In The World

CROP Walk

The CROP Walk takes place the first Sunday in May. Participants get sponsors to pledge money for completing the 2 ½ mile walk around Lake Artemesia in College Park. Canned food donations for Help by Phone of Prince George's County are also encouraged. Many churches in Prince George's County participate. Greenbelt Community Church UCC has been honored to receive the "Holy Sole" award for many years for the most number of walkers participating. The monies collected are split between Help by Phone of Prince George's County to alleviate hunger locally and Church World Service (CWS) to alleviate hunger worldwide. Come and walk so others may eat! To learn more about CWS visit their website: http://www.cwsglobal.org

Heifer Project

The Board of Christian Education involves children in a Heifer International project each year. Small banks in the form of Noah's Ark are distributed to the Sunday School children at the beginning of Lent. The children collect coins and bills and turn them in each week to be counted towards the final goal. Heifer International provides training and guidance in self-sustaining agricultural projects such as trees, chickens, goats, bees, and rabbits. Visit their website for more information or to make a donation: http://www.heifer.org

Disaster Relief

Through our wider church (http://www.ucc.org/disaster/) and recommendations from Church World Service, our church collects supplies and funds needed by those suffering from natural and man-made disasters around the world and at home. Sadly, there is always a need. Gratefully, we have the power to help.
