One of my favorite Christmas specials is “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” by Dr. Seuss. The captivating (in the truest sense of the word – captivating our ears over and over once we have heard it) is the Welcome Christmas Song.
Fah who for-aze!
Dah who for-aze!
Welcome Christmas
Bring your cheer
Fah who for-aze!
Dah who dor-aze!
Welcome all Who’s
Far and near
Dah who for-aze!
Welcome Christmas
Bring your cheer
Fah who for-aze!
Dah who dor-aze!
Welcome all Who’s
Far and near
Welcome Christmas, fah who rah-moose
Welcome Christmas, dah who dah-moose
Christmas day will always be
Just so long as we have we
Fah who for-aze
Dah who dor-aze
Welcome Christmas
Bring your light
Welcome Christmas
Fah who rah-moose!
Welcome Christmas
Dah who dah-moose!
Welcome Christmas
While we stand
Heart to heart
And hand in hand
You know the story. Mr. Grinch removes all the trappings of the holiday season in the hopes that the celebration will go away. It doesn’t. The Whos down in Whoville sing anyway!
The connection I have been seeing this year has to do with generosity of spirit. Unlike the Grinch, the people of this church, this community, have gathered together to support and make joyous the Christmases of those who have fallen on difficult days.
- GCC has raised and distributed around $5000.00 to missions locally and globally and to disaster relief. The $5000.00 is only what the Board of Missions has distributed. Individuals have added to that by their own giving.
- We had an offer of a $3000.00 matching gift if the congregation of the GILA Thanksgiving Eve Service could match that amount in the offering. We did!
- There were 102 cards for gifts for families this Christmas. They were all taken and the church offices will be filling up this week with wrapped gifts for families. (Deadline is this Sunday, December 15 so they can be picked up Tuesday morning December 17.
These are only recent examples of your generosity of spirit. Thank you.
Welcome Christmas
